Terre de Briord

The Terre de Briord Project

Restore, Preserve, Share — the Terre de Briord project carries a threefold ambition around the château of Briord, a Nantes folie built in 1770 at the heart of the Pays de Retz.

The origin

The Terre de BRIORD project carries a threefold ambition:

A lover of history, in particular that of France during the 18th and 19th centuries, Eric PETERS long nurtured the dream of an encounter with "his great witness", the one that would offer him an infinite field of research, contemplation and pleasure. A great witness to which he could devote the rest of his existence, with the ambition of restoring it, protecting it and, above all, sharing it with the greatest number.

This encounter took place, in the Pays de Retz, in the middle of the summer of 2021, on the Land of BRIORD.

The finest encounters are always the ones we do not expect. It was a summer morning that led me to the Land of Briord. As I travelled the long avenue crossing the forest that leads to the heart of the estate, I knew. I knew that it was here, even before being captivated by the peaceful elegance of the Château de Briord.Eric PETERS

The ambition

The Terre de Briord project is above all a great responsibility. That of restoring to this eighteenth-century marvel that is the Château de Briord, regarded as one of the loveliest "Nantes Folies", a state of presentation worthy of its former prestige.

It is therefore the concern for historic preservation that firmly guides the restoration actions undertaken. A temporal cupola, from the Revolution to the Roaring Twenties, defines all the restoration choices so that the place may relive its great era. All the restoration works obey a strict instruction: to keep every original element in its historic patina, and to restore while respecting the materials and building techniques of the period.

Sharing

None of us knows what we all know together

A project such as Terre de Briord has meaning only if it is shared and supported by firm convictions. To allow companies of all sizes to engage simply in a concrete project of preservation of regional historic heritage. To allow the inhabitants to reclaim, through the visit, an element of their collective heritage.

The Terre de Briord project therefore pursues this twofold objective of sharing, aimed at the greatest number, companies and individuals alike.
